Is Adrian Newey working on the ‘Ultimate’ electric supercar with AMG?

The road car project that Adrian Newey is working on with Red Bull and Aston Martin appears to be picking up steam, and there are rumors that it could be an electric car.

Newey seems to have no interest in building a hybrid hypercar four years after the McLaren P1, LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder. As previously discussed, these examples are very much first generation 'mild' hybrids.

What does interest him is a car that Autocar says advances technology and the involvement of the driver. That would be an electric supercar. Newey reportedly wants his car to hold the same sort of place in history as Gordon Murray's McLaren F1.

Sources suggest that Aston Martin shareholder Mercedes-Benz wants to be involved in the project, both to create a connection with Red Bull’s younger audience and to have a technical involvement in what could be a landmark product. As such, it is said to be pushing for its performance arm, AMG, to work with Newey.

As AMG are responsible for designing the only production supercar with true all-wheel-drive torque vectoring (Mercedes SLS AMG Electric), any collaboration between AMG and Adrian Newey could spawn a vehicle to seriously eclipse the current generation of hybrid hypercar.

Aston Martin DBX SUV to go into production in 2019

Aston Martin has announced a production version of the all electric DBX SUV concept will enter production and be on sale by 2019.

In a statement issued last night, Aston’s boss Andy Palmer announced his company had raised the £200m from its two majority shareholders to begin work on creating a production version of last month’s Geneva motor show concept.

“The additional investment announced today will allow us to realise the DBX and other new luxury vehicles that will form the strongest and most diverse portfolio in our history”. Said the Aston CEO.

The DBX Concept is an all-wheel drive crossover high luxury GT that uses in-board electric wheel motors at all four corners powered by lithium sulphur cells. Steering is a drive-by-wire system and both the driver and passenger have head-up displays surrounded by auto-dimming ‘smart glass’.

Aston Martin To Build Electric Rapide by 2018

Aston Martin Chief Executive Andy Palmer says the company may build an electric version of its Rapide sports car in two to three years as a part of its plan to overhaul its lineup and add several new models.

Mr. Palmer said the company has launched a research project for the electric car and is speaking with electric-vehicle technology companies to partner with, though he declined to say which companies.

“We are looking at technologies around the world, including some pretty cool technologies coming from Silicon Valley,” he said. Tesla Motors Inc., based in Palo Alto, Calif., isn’t one of them, he said.

Mr. Palmer, who came to Aston Martin from Nissan Motor Co., where he was an executive vice president, said the company would be producing ultraluxury special editions of its current models in the short-term to generate buzz and revenue, ahead of the new models. Aston is planning a crossover vehicle as well as an executive large sedan to compete with Rolls-Royce.

Aston Martin début all-electric all-wheel-drive DBX Concept

Aston Martin has surprise all at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show with the debut of an all electric DBX Concept.

Aston Martin is calling the DBX Concept a high luxury GT that fits the description of a crossover coupe. Far from a production ready vehicle, the concept is just a design study for the time being, but Aston does admit there is a market for such a vehicle.

The DBX Concept can accommodate four adults and all the cargo they could ever want since there is a traditional rear cargo area as well as a front trunk occupying the place usually reserved for a ICE.
